Introducing The Childrens Hyperinsulinism Charity!
At Full Circle Asset Finance, we are firm believers that ‘charity starts at home’, but it can end wherever you want it to. We already support our local community by sponsoring local sports clubs and people. However, as our business grows, we aim to do more, and part of this is to raise money for charities. Therefore, the charity we have chosen is the Children’s Hyperinsulinism Charity which is a charity very close to the heart of our MD Luke Larvin.
Luke’s niece & God-daughter Georgia was only 5 months old when she suddenly had a life changing seizure and after almost 4 weeks in hospital Georgia was diagnosed with Hyperinsulinism. This is where the pancreas overproduces insulin, which is technically the opposite of diabetes which everyone has heard of. If this is not managed, it results in uncontrollable seizures and brain injuries.
Up until the age of three years old, Georgia’s life entailed constant admissions into hospital spending birthdays and Christmases in a hospital bed whilst they worked tirelessly to perfect her medication. The medication included 5 needle injections per day along with 2 oral medications 6 times per day.
It was with the incredible help of the nurses, doctors and of course the Children’s Hyperinsulinism Charity that Georgia is now only on 2 oral medications 4 times per day and has not had a seizure for the last 5 years. The work this charity does is incredible, and they do not only save lives, but they are instrumental in supporting the children and the parents through those tough times.
We would personally like to thank the Children’s Hyperinsulinism Charity for their amazing work, and we aim to raise as much money as we possibly can for a big annual donation every December.
We are going to contribute £5 for every deal we do for any client so if you use us for finance, please rest assured we are donating on your behalf.
The Children’s Hyperinsulinism Charity are an excellent charity who really want to make a difference to the children and families lives who are affected by Hyperinsulinism.
What is Hyperinsulinism?
This is a condition where the pancreas produces too much insulin, resulting in low blood glucose levels (hypoglycaemia) and in some cases causing hypoglycaemic brain injury. This can lead to several problems for children who suffer if it is left untreated, such as cardiac/respiratory issues, infections, feeding problems, or fluid overload. This is why it is so important for the issue to be identified quickly, to ensure treatment is carried out.
What does the charity aim to do?
The charity works to raise awareness of the issues that thousands of children and families are facing, and to help provide support and advice to them. They would like to end misdiagnosis and support research, to ensure that the serious effects are minimised.
As well as trying to raise awareness, they also host family fun days to allow families who are all facing the same issues to come together and form a support network for each other. Training days are also held for teachers and care workers, to ensure they fully understand the disease and can offer the correct levels of support.
Due to being a non-profit charity relying completely on donations and volunteers, we wanted to give something back to them due to all the great work they have been doing.
If you would like to learn a little bit more about the wonderful work they do or make a donation to them yourself, please visit their website for more information https://www.hyperinsulinism.co.uk/
